Are Photographers Taken for Granted ?

Recently, an interesting post was published on the Union of Professional Photographers website (the article is in French).

The Union of Professional Photographers is trying to pass a stong message about how their work is not respected. It illustrates a recurring problem: every day, journalists, newspapers, magazines, media in general, feel free to use photographs to illustrate their articles without consent from the photographer. It is commonly said a picture is worth a thousand words. Clearly, without the photographs, the articles are lessened on their impact. Where is the respect for the photographer, who has put his/her energy in capturing the world ? Not only is photographic material used without proper authorisation, most media does not want to remunerate photographers for the use of their photographs.

There has not been a more apt moment to ask: what’s wrong with this picture ???

The authors of the post conclude with the following: “With this image we want to illustrate the violent, crass and disrespectful financial reality which photographers experience on a daily basis.
